This one is self explanatory. My favorite piece by far has been this painting. This is an oil painting done on canvas for a painting class. The requirement was to do only one subject but I went ahead and did two. At first I wasn't sure what I wanted to paint but since I am a big Batman fan I went ahead with this famous scene from the movie.
I used the DVD movie and created a screen capture/still and printed it out. One in color and the other in black and white. I used the black and white print as a reference to scale the drawing up from the 8x1o sheet to the size of the canvas. Drew it up, painted it and it was done. Sounds easy right? Not lol
Hope you enjoy the painting.

Demite
This is one of my first...or should I say the first character study I did when I was in school. I felt really comfortable drawing this character. Sometimes coming up with a character can take a lot out of you. Everything from the design, the color and overall look and feel of the this guy just came to me naturally. From the minute I started to doodle and saw what I had, I knew right away how I wanted it to look. I was aiming for a very dark and evil looking character that also had a soft and humble side to him as well. Much like Stitch from Disney's Lilo and Stitch, only my nasty little guy isn't blue and doesn't live in Hawaii lol
I came up with a short and simple name for him. "Demite" was a combination of "demon" and "mite" which means short or tiny. The thought of making him small came from having a devil on your shoulder. You know, that evil side of your conscious that persuades you to do bad things?
I love the creature-esque look to him. No costume. No props. Just what he is and as you see him. I may want to incorporate a tail...but haven't decided yet. The teeth and eyes give that evil look, yet his hands and feet are large and heavy giving a cartoony feel to his small kidney shaped body.
Well I hope you enjoy this initial character study, I know I did. I plan to further develop Demite and post the progress up in the near future.
